Assessment of Smoke Free Policy and Practice in Healthcare Institutions in Serbia

Public Health Association of Serbia conductеd the study “Assessment of smoke-free policy and practice in healthcare institutions in Serbiathat was financed by the Research for International Tobacco Control RITC, International Development Research Centre - IDRC from Canada.

The study was performed in 2009/2010, and had two main parts: one was the assessment of the smoke-free policy and practice in all healthcare institutions in Serbia, and the second was to establish the smoking prevalence among the representative sample of employees of healthcare institutions in Serbia.

As a result of the study and the suggestions made by the directors and employees in the healthcare institutions in Serbia the booklet was published “Smoke-Free Policy and Practice in Healthcare Institutions of Serbia – Why it is Important to Have Smoke-Free Institutions?”, as well as Factsheets.

Global Youth Tobacco Survey ( GYTS)

The Serbia GYTS includes data on prevalence of cigarette and other tobacco use as well as information on five determinants of tobacco use: access/availability and price, exposure to secondhand smoke (SHS), cessation, media and advertising, and school curriculum.  These determinants are components Serbia could include in a comprehensive tobacco control program.The Serbia GYTS was a school-based survey of students in grade 7th and 8th of primary school and 1st grade of secondary school  (age 13 – 15) conducted in 2008.

The survey of Smoking Prevalence in Pre and Post natal women in Serbia carried out by the Serbian Public Health Association in the project "Strengthening the voice of civil society for public health in the Balkans through the Association of Public Health. Funded by the Canadian International Development Agency during 2008. and in 2009 and with the help of the Canadian Association of Public Health.
